When our employer, The Arcon Group, went into receivership, we decided to set up our own business. As specialists in our trade, we aimed to supply door controls, security products and door furniture, along with the best possible service.
Turentek was incorporated in 2000 by Neil Aspinshaw and Paul Henstock, who have a combined experience of 60 years of Architectual Ironmongery.
From the beginning our telephones started ringing, as customers placed their trust in us as credible people. Those who knew us began to send enquiries, orders, and specifications and within months we had secured large contracts with the ENT building at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and Thoresby Hall for Warner Hotels.
In the next two years we were joined by Jason and Keith and further expanded as a company.
We then re-located to Canal Street, our ideal venue with trade counter facilities and ample storage. In no time we were joined by Jason, Dave, Michelle, Jane, and Pat. Our reputation for quality and service continued to grow and even bigger, more prestigious contracts followed, including the brand new Met Office Building in Exeter.
We launched ‘Ovation’, our personally designed range of stainless steel hardware. It broke the mould of basic round bar handles and from the start it was a winner! It’s classy lines gave architects an ultra modern design whilst complying with BS8300.
We then settled into our current premises; our warehouse, showroom and flourishing trade counter showcases all that Turentek proudly offers.
As the business became more established we moved into more specialist areas of the trade. We established partnerships with some of the industries most prestigious brands, were awarded the Platinum Distributor status by ASSA/Abloy, and became a main distributor for Salto’s ‘Virtual Network’ electronic locking system.
We were highly commended in the GAI/RIBA specification awards for the Roundhouse refurbishment in Derby.
Despite the economic climate, our success continues. Perhaps it’s who we are, or the reputation of our service, but we continue to do things the same way we did in 1999, where we started with a fax and a phone, one desk and two chairs, which have never left us.
So after 13 years at St Peters Street in Radford we have secured New premises in Beeston, We are excited to be welcoming our customers to our new premises from August 10th 2021.
Darren joined us back in 2012, he has a wealth of experience in the sign industry, he gives us the capability to produce purpose made vinyl signs in house, he is also our delivery driver, Darren spends most weekends playing the drums in the Tribute band AC/DC UK.
Natalie is a Dip GAI and Reg A.I Holder and has 25 years’ experience in Architectural Hardware and fire doors. She joined Leaderflush Doors from school. Natalie enjoys running and dining out.
Jane joined the company in 2001 has a BA (Hons) degree in History and 34 years’ experience in accounts management. Jane is a keen gardener and has many chickens.
Jason joined the business in 2003 and is a GAI Diploma Holder with 35 years of architectural ironmongery experience. Jason is a keen book reader and real ale fan.
Jamie joined us in February as an apprentice, coming from the hospitality industry he is keen to learn his trade in Ironmongery, he jumps straight into the GAI foundation course to learn the ropes.
Neil is a founder director of the company and GAI Diploma Holder; with 37 years’ experience in Architectural Ironmongery and a G.A.I specification award winner twice. Outside of the business he has a passion for shooting antique firearms and military history.
Paul is a founder director of the company and GAI Diploma Holder; with 49 years’ experience, having joined Lewis & Grundy Ironmongery in 1972. Paul has a keen interest in football.
Keith joined the business straight from school in 2000, is the longest serving member of staff and is a GAI Diploma Holder. Keith is a keen non-league footballer and golfer.
